Special Needs Dogs

This is one of our special needs animals. She came to us starved and having been hit by a car. We found her owner but he did not want her back. Her pelvis is broken in two places but we need to do heartworm treatment and help her put on about 15 lbs. before she will be strong enough to survive the surgery. The vet wants to see her again right after Christmas. Anything that can be done to spread the word to raise funds for her is appreciated.

Buddy is another special needs dog. He was a community celebrity who was attached by a gang of men earlier this spring with a hatchet. He lost his leg in the attack. He had suffered months of neglect and abuse before the attack and it has taken this long to completely recover from a severe case of mange. He is now awaiting a forever home but his adoption fee will not begin to replenish the special needs fund that was used for his care month after month.

Barney was hit by a car on Bragg Blvd. and needed emergency FHO surgery. Here is Barney after a successful surgery. We need donations so that we are prepared for the next pet with a medical crisis. Only by everyone chipping in whatever they can, will The Haven have the resources to provide for animals like these that others have abandoned.

News & Available Adoptions

Recently 27 puppies were abandoned on our street, all needing to be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, deflead and quarantined for almost a month. This was a huge financial blow to the shelter. In the same week we took on a paralyzed Dachshund and a German Shepard with a gunshot wound.

Everyone is feeling the pinch of recent economic challenges. It is our hope that everyone will search their heart for something they can contribute to the cause of saving lives of abandoned animals. From financial donations to items for rummage sales, all gifts are appreciated.

Looking for Haven Heros

We partner yearly with area animal controls to provide their animals with an opportunity for no-kill adoption services. Yearly approximately 1000 animal lives are saved by this program, additionally The Haven takes in surrenders from the public, often from deploying servicemen seeking a safe place offering re-homing services for their beloved pet. The adoption programs need financial support beyond the cost of the adoption because the fee charged is discounted by hundreds of dollars below our annual cost of preparing the animal for adoption. It takes community wide dedication to save tens of thousands of animals who each year find themselves abandoned.

We at The Haven are hoping this fall to forge new friendships to help preserve their lives and adopt out animals others have forgotten.
